Student-athletes awarded BFA Legends scholarships

Five student athletes are the latest beneficiaries of the Bermuda Football Association Legend Scholarship award scheme.

Koa Goodchild, Emily Cabral, Caleb MacDowall, Sachiel Ming and Che-Chulae Dowling were awarded scholarships for embodying the spirit of local legends of the game.

Howard University student Goodchild was the recipient of a scholarship honouring former Young Men’s Social Club and women’s senior national team player Nicole Jones.

Goodchild plays for newly crowned women’s league and Knockout Cup champions Somerset and the senior women’s national team.

Cabral received a scholarship honouring the legacy of Pamela Pace who is regarded as a pioneer having played in an all men’s teams at Whitney Institute and in the former Eastern Soccer League.

Nova Southeastern University student Cabral is also a member of Somerset and the women’s senior national team.

Che-Chulae Dowling was awarded a scholarship in honour of former West End Rovers, Somerset Colts, Somerset and Bermuda goalkeeper Clyde Burgess. Burgess enjoyed considerable success, achieving the coveted triple crown, comprised of league, FA Cup and Friendship Trophy with Somerset.

Jackson University student Dowling recently represented Bermuda at the Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship.

MacDowall is the recipient of the scholarship honouring former North Village and Bermuda player Larry Smith. Smith coached Village to the coveted triple crown and Somerset to the league and FA Cup double.

Anderson University student MacDowall plays for BAA and captained Bermuda at the Concacaf Under-20 Championship.

Sachiel Ming receives the Marcus Douglas 2022 Legends Scholarship (Photograph by Blaire Simmons)

Ming was awarded the scholarship recognising former Devonshire Colts, Hamilton Parish and Bermuda player Marcus Douglas who was a member of the island’s 1967 Pan American Games silver medal winning squad.

Northwood School student Ming plays for Robin Hood at both youth and senior level.
