Reggie Lambe on target in FA Cup replay defeat
Reggie Lambe scored for the second straight outing as he and Stowmarket Town bowed out of the Emirates FA Cup at Greens Meadow last night.
The home side came out on the wrong end of a 3-2 defeat against Suffolk rivals Sudbury in a five-goal thriller that was ultimately decided in extra time.
Stowmarket made a dream start when Ed Upson struck a free kick from the edge of the box into the top left corner in the 23rd minute.
However, Nnamdi Nwachuku brought the teams level in the 34th minute against the run of play with a calm finish into the bottom right corner, with Bermuda midfielder Lambe receiving a booking moments later.
The game opened up after the interval with non-stop action as both teams tried to establish control.
Sudbury took the lead for the first time on the night when Joe Grimwood headed home from a corner in the 66th minute during a good spell of possession for the visitors.
However, their lead was short-lived as Lambe brought the teams level again to send the cup-tie to extra time.
Tempers flared with the referee issuing two more yellow cards as both teams battled on ferociously before Sudbury full back Oliver Caley-Brown headed in the winner off the bar in the second period of extra time to settle a tie that could have gone either way.
The Isthmian League North Division rivals had battled to a 1-1 stalemate at Sudbury’s Mel Group Stadium on Saturday.
Joshua Mayhew gave the home side the lead on the stroke of half-time before Lambe equalised from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute.
