Bermuda too strong for British Virgin Islands in Concacaf Under-17 Qualifiers opener

Bermuda got their 2022 Concacaf Under-17 Championship Qualifiers off to a successful start when they defeated the British Virgin Islands 4-0 at the IMG Academy today in Bradenton, Florida.

Jannis Roberts gave Bermuda the lead in the ninth minute before Hayden Dill doubled the advantage with the second goal in the 31st minute.

Jaidyn Robinson made it 3-0 in first-half stoppage time before Chance Eve closed out the scoring in the 75th minute.

Other opening-day matches saw Bonaire and Bahamas also claim wins in group A, Bonaire coming from 2-1 down in the second half to beat Guyana 4-2, while Bahamas edged St Martin 2-1.

Action in the qualifiers continue tomorrow in Florida and in Managua, Nicaragua, with group B kicking off at the IMG Academy, where Aruba take on Martinique and Puerto Rico play the US Virgin Islands.

Bermuda, coached by Cecoy Robinson, will play again on Thursday when they meet St Martin before taking on Bonaire on Saturday.

After round-robin play, the group winners will advance to the championship finals scheduled for Guatemala in February.
