Charity Cup abandoned because of lightning scare

No ball games: the new football season got off tp a false dawn after the Charity Cup between Dandy Town and Devonshire Cougars at Goose Gosling Field was abandoned before kick-off because of lightning in the area

The new football season got off to a false dawn after the Charity Cup between Dandy Town and Devonshire Cougars was abandoned before it even kicked off at Goose Gosling Field this evening.

Last season’s Premier Division and FA Cup champions Town and Friendship Trophy winners Cougars were due to meet in the highly anticipated season-opener, with kick-off scheduled at 8pm.

However, even with the grace of a 25-minute delay amid a torrential downpour, match officials ultimately took the decision to abandon the match before kick-off on the grounds of safety because of lightning in the area.
