Nahki Wells’s goal streak ends in Bristol City defeat
Nahki Wells, the Bristol City striker, had an assist and was twice denied in his team’s 3-2 defeat away to Norwich City in the Sky Bet Championship on Wednesday night.
The Bermuda captain supplied the cross which was headed in by fellow forward Tommy Conway to leave the visitors trailing 2-1 at the break
The hosts jumped out to a 2-0 lead at Carrow Road after striker Teemu Pukki converted in the eleventh and 23rd minutes.
Wells, who played the entire match, threatened when his shot from the penalty spot blocked before the interval and also had header in the second half saved.
Forward Josh Sargent restored Norwich’s two-goal advantage in the 65th minute.
Substitute Antoine Semenyo pulled one back for City in the 77th minute but the home side held on to secure the points.
It is the first time Wells has not scored in three outings. The 32-year-old netted in City’s 2-0 win away to former club Huddersfield Town, which he followed up with a brace in 3-2 win away to Blackburn Rovers to earn man-of- the- match plaudits.
City slipped from fourth to seventh in the Championship standings following their third defeat of the league campaign against Norwich yesterday and first since losing 3-2 at home to Sunderland on August 6.
Meanwhile, Wells’s Bermuda team-mate Kole Hall netted the only goal to power Chester to a 1-0 win at home to Southport in the Vanarama National League North on Tuesday night.
The 23-year-old forward grabbed his second goal of the season in the 53rd minute with an emphatic finish to give Harry McHugh an assist on his club debut from a free-kick.
“Big three points, the boys were class to keep a clean sheet,” Hall posted on his Twitter account.
“Happy to get another goal. Thanks to the fans who were brilliant yet again.”
Chester are twelfth in the Vanarama National League North standings.
