Leo Burgess hat-trick powers Ireland Rangers to big win in West End derby
Ireland Rangers continued their fine start to the First Division season after making light work of Somerset Eagles at White Hill Field last weekend.
The away side recorded a convincing 5-2 win to maintain their lead in the table, with Leo Burgess leading the charge with a hat-trick.
Burgess broke the deadlock in the first minute to get the ball rolling for his team.
Tahj Wade doubled Ireland Rangers’ advantage in the 36th minute before Burgess grabbed a second right on the stroke of half-time to place the visitors firmly in the driver’s seat at the interval.
Whakail Tucker added a fourth in the 49th minute as the visitors pulled further away.
Dane Simmons clawed one back for Eagles seven minutes later before Burgess restored Ireland Rangers’ four-goal advantage by completing his treble in the 63rd minute.
Ethan Fubler added another consolation for Eagles in the 71st minute with the game having long ended as a contest.
Also recording a big win were Shield holders Wolves, who thumped hosts St David’s 5-1 at Lord’s largely thanks to four-goal hero Morricko Iris
Tyree Robinson opened the scoring in the 30th minute but Iris took over from there, scoring in the 33rd, 59th, 77th and 86th minutes to put the match well beyond the reach of the hosts, who replied through Marcus Proctor’s 48th-minute strike.
Elsewhere, Southampton Rangers and Paget battled to a 1-1 stalemate at Southampton Oval.
Paget were unfortunate to have four goals disallowed and a penalty saved, all in the first half, before surrendering their lead late in the second period.
Kushae Hypolite put Paget out in front in the 31st minute before Isaiah Taylor grabbed a 74th-minute equaliser for the home side.
The match between BAA and Young Men’s Social Club at Goose Gosling Field was postponed.
