Four-goal hero Jonte Smith fires St George’s to thumping win over Robin Hood

Jonte Smith continued his sparkling form after bagging four goals to lead the charge for a rampant St George’s Colts at Wellington Oval yesterday.
The striker banged in four goals as the hosts had things all their own way in a contest that was all but over well before the interval.
Blaiz Hall, Malachi Trott and Keishon Wilson all netted twice while substitute Manoj Paynter also got in the scoring act at St George’s came away with their biggest win for some time.
Robin Hood’s Dante Leverock grabbed his team’s only goal midway through the second half to deny the St George’s defence a clean sheet.
The winning team’s coach Jarreau Hayward felt his side were flattered by the result.
“The score does not really reflect what happened,” Hayward said.
“It was a difficult game, especially early on. Robin Hood are a good team and I think the sun and no substitutes kind of added up after a while but we are definitely pleased with the scoreline so on to the next.
“Robin Hood have good organisation, good coaches and good players so I was definitely surprised bu the size of the win. I doubt that will ever happen again and they will be fine going forward for sure.”
Hayward also hailed his team’s clinical finishing, in particular Smith who has netted seven goals in his last two outings.
“Jonte got four and that’s what he is up there for,” he said. “One chance, one goal and it helps us to settle and we are just really grateful to have him in the team.
“But we definitely are not a one-man band. We have all points of attack, so it’s well-balanced the way I like it. We still have a way to go but today was a good step.”
Smith netted a hat-trick in his first appearance of the season in St George’s 5-2 win at home to Hamilton Parish seven days earlier and picked right up where he left off after tapping in midfielder Blaiz Hall’s cross from point-blank range.
The striker struck again three minutes later, this time curling in Blaiz Hall’s cutback in the area to double his team’s advantage and effectively end the match as a contest.
Smith completed his second hat-trick in as many starts after collecting captain Kashae Hall’s pass from midfielder before racing clear and beating Hood goalkeeper Timmy Figureido at the near post.
Blaiz Hall grabbed another assist after releasing Wilson who slotted under the advancing Figureido to send the home side into the dressing room in full control.
Smith turned from scorer to provider after setting up Wilson’s second goal, which the latter squeezed inside Figureido’s near post to make it 5-0 four minutes into the second period.
Blaiz Hall then opened his account after tapping in sibling Kashae’s cross.
Smith grabbed his fourth after switching the ball from his right to left boot and beating Figureido at the near post.
Blaiz Hall rubbed more salt in Hood’s wound when he planted the ball into the bottom corner from inside the area after another flowing move.
Next came Robin Hood’s only moment of note when Leverock drilled in a shot from just outside the box to get his side on the scoresheet.
Trott finally got in on the scoring act when he lashed in a wicked shot from just outside of the box and Paynter made it 10-1 when he beat Figureido with another shot from just outside of the area.
Trott then rounded off the rout when he hit the target with his effort from the left of the box.
