The legacy of Rudy Minors was celebrated on Saturday in a special Memorial Football Festival Masters Tournament in his name at Somerset Cricket Club.

The tournament, which formed form part of the club’s Anniversary Week, saw former players lace up their boots in honour of the former Somerset Trojans defender, whose number three shirt was officially retired as part of the day’s celebrations.

Minors jersey was originally scheduled to be retired prior to the start of Trojans’ 2012-13 home opener with a framed jersey set to be put on display before plans were put on hold.

His football career began at West End Rovers but he eventually became a Trojan after Rovers and Somerset Colts amalgamated in the 1960s to become what is known today as Somerset Cricket Club.

Minors also made his mark on the international stage, most notably as a member of the Bermuda national team that won the silver medal at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Canada, in 1967.
