X-Roads out to distance themselves from relegation battle
X -Roads Warriors will be looking to ease their Premier Division relegation fears as they take on Robin Hood at Goose Gosling Field on Thursday night (9pm).
Ralph Bean Jr’s team are seventh in the standings, four points above the drop zone, and will be firm favourites after beating already-relegated Hood 4-1 in the first league encounter between the two sides last November.
Victory would take X-Roads to 17 points, two fewer than the maximum relegation-threatened Boulevard Blazers can gain from their remaining three fixtures against North Village, Somerset Trojans and league leaders PHC Zebras.
Blazers squandered a glorious opportunity to ease their relegation worries when letting a two-goal lead slip in a 3-2 loss to Dandy Town last weekend.
Hood, who have won just one point this season, had their inevitable relegation confirmed when losing 3-1 to league leaders PHC last Saturday, while Somerset also find themselves in the relegation battle, hovering just three points above Boulevard.
Winston Trott Jr’s youthful PHC side top the table on 36 points, with just three points separating the top four teams in one of the closest title races in the top flight in recent memory.
PHC will host St George’s in an intriguing top-of-the-table clash at PHC Field on Saturday night (8pm) which could have a strong bearing on determining the outcome of the championship.
