BAA captain Jonas Schroder disappointed with final position

Jonas Schroder (right) blamed injuries and lack of experience for loss of form

A season that looked to be filled with so much promise for BAA ended tamely as they fought out a goalless draw with Devonshire Colts at Police Field on Sunday.

BAA’s attempt to gain promotion to the Premier Division appeared to be going swimmingly with a month of the campaign to go but their challenge faltered badly on and they finished the campaign in a disappointing fourth position.

BAA captain Jonas Schroder pointed to a lack of experience as the key reason why the Hamilton-based club fell away.

"We had a disappointing end to the season," Schroder said. “However, we have a very young team and I would say we over-achieved with the squad we have.

“We had quite a few injuries in the second half and these gave us serious selection challenges as well.”

Schroder himself had to come on for the final moments of their final match of the season despite carrying a knock.

“Promotion is always the end goal,” he said. “We are disappointed we didn't keep up but we will learn from our challenges. The fact that we were up there this early in the project gives me confidence for the future.”

Devonshire Colts dominated BAA for large periods in this final match and and wasted numerous chances.

Colts began the first half on the front foot, passing their way into the final third on numerous occasions. Keino Burch was played through by Dezion Davis and squared for fellow attacker Torben Axelsen, who fired over from six yards in Colts’ best opportunity of the period, but although they dominated possession and territory, BAA had to make a few last-ditch challenges to keep the scoreline level.

Colts continued the pattern of the first period into the second, although BAA became slightly more dangerous on the counter attack while creating very few dangerous moments.

As the match opened up, Colts nearly found the winner in the final five minutes when Treshun Smith found Kiuno Cann from a corner, but the forward glanced his header wide.
