Force Grey win Youth Futsal tournament
Matthew Troake proved to be the match-winner as the under-15 Youth Futsal tournament came to an exciting conclusion last weekend.
Troake popped up with the winner as his Force Grey side emerged as champions following a close-fought 1-0 victory over Force Blue in the final.
It was a remarkable turnaround for Force Grey, who had struggled in the group stages and were forced into a play-off with Force Yellow to even make it through to the knockout stages, but they progressed thanks to two goals from Connor Redcliffe and a strike from Sinai Simons in a 3-1 win. Sabri Umani netted for Force Yellow.
Underdogs Force Grey then came up against group winners Force Red, who topped the table with nine points, in an intriguing semi-final. Redcliffe and Simons again found the net alongside Romari Ruddock to progress to the final after a 3-0 win.
In the other semi-final, Logan Chadwick, Adonai Gibbons and Skyler Peixoto all found the net as Force Blue ran out easy 3-0 winners over Force Black.
It wasn’t just the knockout competition taking place in Bermuda, with week two of the Youth Futsal League also taking place on the hockey pitches at the National Sports Centre.
With 57 goals scored, there was plenty of excitement and skill on show, with Force Navy Team now leading the standings on 29 points. Force Black and Force Blue are tied for second with 25 points.
