Mia Fishel joins Chelsea women’s team for $250,000

Mia Fishel has joined Chelsea Women’s team

Mia Fishel is celebrating making a dream move to Chelsea.

Fishel, 22, a United States youth international, is Bermudian through her father, Patrick, while her uncles, Andrew and David Bascome, both played international football for Bermuda.

The striker has set Mexican football alight since joining Tigres in January 2022, scoring 47 goals in 64 games and this season was the first first foreign player to win the Liga MX Femenil golden boot.

Chelsea have paid a reported $250,000 to Tigres to secure Fishel’s services, with the player describing the move as a dream come true.

“I’ve been a Chelsea fan since I was little and Drogba, Hazard, that was my team,” Fishel said In an interview posted on Chelsea FC Women’s Twitter feed.

“It’s just crazy being here. This is my first time at Stamford Bridge and, honestly, I just can’t describe how I feel. It’s so beautiful.”

She also took the time to explain to the Chelsea fans what her team-mates call her.

“I started playing in a national team and they called me Fish,” she said. “I kept playing and my success on the field meant the other players called me Big Fish.

“It feels crazy to see my name on the back of a Chelsea shirt and I’m very excited to get started with this amazing club and I just hope that I can hit the ground running.”

Fishel has signed a three-year-deal and has made no secret of her ambitions with Chelsea.

“I want to become the best soccer player here,” she said. “Growing up, this was the team that made me who I want to be. The competitiveness, the wanting to win, I want to be part of this history.

“I want to win titles, I want to win championships, I want to play in the Champions League and dominate. My ambition, just like this club, is to be the best.”

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes is pleased with the signing and knows exactly what the club has bought.

“Mia is an exceptional finisher whose box presence and movement make her elite,” Hayes said on the club’s website.

“She can also create something from nothing and her prime years are to come.”
