Bermuda secure first win at Concacaf Under-15 Championship
Bermuda revived their hopes of advancing beyond the group stage after securing a first win at the Concacaf Under-15 Boys’ Championship in Curaçao yesterday.
Logan Jimenez’s second-half strike earned Vashun Blanchette’s team a vital 1-0 triumph over Aruba.
It was the perfect response for Bermuda who found themselves in a must-win situation to keep alive their hopes of reaching the next round of the competition after going down 2-0 against unbeaten group G leaders St Lucia in their tournament opener at the same venue 24 hours earlier.
Blanchette’s team are tied for second with Aruba, who have a superior goal difference heading into their final group match with winless bottom side Cayman Islands today.
The top two nations in the group will advance through to the knockout stage of the competition.
Bermuda were drawn in League B along with 16 other national teams that were ranked second highest based on the Concacaf men’s under-17 ranking as of February this year.
Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Bonaire, Curaçao, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Martinique, Nicaragua, St Kitts & Nevis and Surinam are the other teams in League B.
