Bermuda hold nerve in shoot-out to reach Concacaf Under-15 Boys Championship semi-finals
Belize 0 Bermuda 0 (Bermuda won 4-3 on penalties)
Bermuda held their nerve when it mattered most to secure their spot in the League B semi-final of the Concacaf Under-15 Boys’ Championship in Curacao.
Vashun Blanchette’s side edged Belize 4-3 on penalties in an evenly fought quarter-final that went the distance at the Stadion Rigaal Jean Francisca to keep their title hopes on track.
With the game on the line, Dakayo Leverock, Na’im Zuill, Kennahz Fray and Logan Jimenez were all equal to the task from 12 yards.
“The boys showed great character and resolve,” coach Blanchette said.
“I was equally pleased with their display of sportsmanship at the end of the shoot-out. They really are a good bunch of young men and credit to their families.”
Bermuda will face Saint Lucia in the semi-final tomorrow at the same venue.
St prevailed 2-0 in the first encounter between the two countries last Sunday.
“We have a short turnaround time to prepare for St, so it’s important we recover well physically and mentally,” Blanchette added.
Nicaragua will face Martinique in the other semi-final.
