North Village and St George’s to meet in Dudley Eve quarter-finals
St George’s coach Jarreau Hayward is hoping some of his injured players will be back when his side faces off against North Village in the Dudley Eve Trophy quarter-finals.
The two teams were pitted against each other during the draw conducted at the Bermuda Football Association offices on Wednesday and Hayward, who’s team finished second in their group, has plenty of respect for his opponents.
“St George’s are definitely looking to the challenge of Kenny Thompson and his Village team,’’ Hayward said.
“He’s a great coach with a great team, so we’re just looking forward to the challenge and the opportunity as want to progress further and challenge ourselves.
“We may have one or two off our extensive injury list for the game and this is an opportunity for them to get integrated into the team and test their fitness.
“This is another opportunity to further our philosophy and grow as a unit so we are definitely looking forward to it and will see what happens on the night.”
In the other last-eight fixtures, Hamilton Parish will tackle Paget, PHC face Somerset Trojans and Dandy Town have a date with Devonshire Cougars, with the ties set to be played on Wednesday, October 4 and Thursday, October 5.
The Dudley Eve was not the only competition with a draw as preliminary-round matches in the Friendship Cup, FA Cup and Shield Trophy also taking place.
PHC will take on Wolves in the Friendship Cup, with the other match featuring X-Roads and Young Men’s Social Club. The two winners will then enter the competition proper.
As well as performing the draws, the BFA yesterday announced that it has entered into a sponsorship deal with Lindo’s Group of Companies for the cup competitions.
Zach Moniz, general manager of Lindo’s, said the company was pleased to be associated with the BFA and helping to raise the profile of local athletes.
“We’re delighted to be involved with the FA Cup, Friendship Trophy, Dudley Eve and the Charity Cup and all the competitions you have over the course of the season,’’ Moniz said.
“Every summer I go down to Horseshoe Bay and see Rangers, Paget, or PHC running down the field and I just think it’s such a great thing to support these guys out there.
“It’s setting such an example for the young kids. We have some real athletes on the island and we’re delighted to be a part of the whole FA team.”
