St George's 1 North Village 2 (aet; 1-1 at 90min)

Substitute Jaizel Smith-Deshields struck twice to help North Village come from behind against St George’s and seal their place in the Dudley Eve Trophy semi-finals.

St George’s started the brighter of the two sides and deservedly went ahead in the fourteenth minute when a neat interchange between Ryan King and Callon Burns resulted in the latter bundling the ball past Village goalkeeper Detre Bell from close range.

St George’s enjoyed the clearer chances with Burns also calling Bell into action, while Jarazinho Bassett also saw an effort deflected narrowly past the post.

However, for all their dominance in the opening 45 minutes, the second half belonged to Village who after a period of prolonged pressure were finally rewarded in the 71st minute when half-time substitute Smith-Deshields turned inside the area and drilled a low effort past Jahquil Hill and into the bottom left corner.

The rest of the half proved one-way traffic as Village continued to pour forward in search of a winner. Kenny Thompson’s side came agonisingly close to doing so with five minutes remaining, but Hill was at his best to brilliantly deny Daion Swan-DeSilva from point-blank range to force the game into extra time.

Buoyed by their strong finish to the game and with St George’s tiring, Village finally completed the turnaround in the 104th minute when Jordan Outerbridge’s cross-field ball from the left found Smith-Deshields, who took a touch inside the area before smashing a driven, low effort past Hill.
