Rangers coach Keith Jennings hails first league victory
Keith Jennings, the Southampton Rangers coach, is delighted to see his players beginning to reap the benefits of their hard work.
Rangers romped to their first league win of the season with a thumping 4-0 demolition of previously unbeaten St David’s Warriors in the First Division at Southampton Oval on Sunday.
The hosts led 1-0 at the half on a goal from Kieshon Wilson before Jahkai Hill, Jahni Bean and captain Dante Brangman added to their tally after the break to put the match way beyond the visitors’ reach.
“It was a good win, saw some good things,” Jennings told The Royal Gazette. “We have been putting the work in training so pieces are starting to slowly come together.”
Rangers are in the midst of a two-game winning streak, having edged Corona League champions Inter Bermuda 2-1 in a hard fought FA Cup preliminary round tie six days earlier.
“I congratulate my players and hopefully we can continue on with the good work and the winning streak,” Jennings added.
Also coming away victorious on Sunday were Somerset Eagles and Vasco.
Eagles came from behind to beat Ireland Island Rangers 3-1 in a West End derby at Somerset Cricket Club.
Tahj Wade put Rangers ahead in the fourteenth minute but Eagles hit back with two goals in five minutes from Nathan Rego and K'Tori Butterfield to take a 2-1 advantage into the interval.
Ethan Fubler then extended Eagles’ lead in the 69th minute to secure the points.
Vasco were also forced to come from behind in a 3-2 win over Boulevard at Goose Gosling Field.
Shaquille Dill scored in the second minute of the match to earn Blazers a 1-0 advantage at the break.
However, Vasco came out swinging at the start of the second half and surged ahead through goals from player-coach Leo Burgess and Kevin Arruda in the space of three minutes.
Boulevard substitute Sanchey Grant brought the teams level in the 53rd minute but Vasco would not be denied as Arruda grabbed the winner and his second of the match in the 71st minute.
The top-of-the-table clash between second-placed Robin Hood and leaders Devonshire Colts at Goose Gosling Field on Saturday was postponed because of inclement weather.
