Bermuda will be looking to cement their place at the top of League B group C in Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup qualifying when they face nearest rival Barbados at Wildey Astro Turf Stadium in Bridgetown tonight (8pm).

Unbeaten Bermuda, who sit seven places above Barbados in the Concacaf rankings, hold a three-point advantage over their opposition heading into the top the table clash.

Naquita Robinson’s team are attempting to qualify for the inaugural Gold Cup in the United States next year and are off to a flying start courtesy of back-to-back victories over Dominican Republic (2-0) and Saint Vincent & the Grenadines (4-0).

Robinson is confident of success heading into the match but is not taking anything for granted against the hosts, who suffered a 3-0 defeat away to Dominican Republic in their previous outing.

“As we rate all opponents as if they are the toughest we are going to face, every game is the first game,” she said. “We approach each game with the same mentality; play our football and adjust tactically when required.”

Robinson has made three changes to her squad from the previous match against St Vincent, with midfielders Kennesha Nanette and Jahzyiah Samuels-Williams and defender Jenna Rempel all getting the nod this time around.

Nanette and Rempel have previous experience with the senior national team while this is the first time Samuels-Williams has been involved at this level.

“We have continued preparing as we have for all matches; working hard on our technical and tactical part of the game,” Robinson added. “Mentally the players have continued to do the things required to be successful.”

The eventual group winner will advance to a play-off where they will face one of the second-place teams from League A.

The winner of the play-off match will then qualify for the Gold Cup to be held from February 20 to March 10.
