Nahki Wells will play under a new manager the next time he slips into Bristol City kit after former manager Nigel Pearson was sacked at the weekend.

Pearson was immediately relieved of his duties after City’s 2-0 defeat at Cardiff City in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday.

“This was a difficult decision to make as we recognise and appreciate how much Nigel has done for the club over the past two-and-a-half years on and off the pitch,” City chairman Jon Lansdown commented on the club’s website.

“Nigel is highly respected by the staff and players and has been very supportive of the Academy structure and our Women’s team.

“We all wanted Nigel to achieve our ambition to be promoted but, with our recent results, feel that now is the time to make a change to give the club the best possible chance of success.”

City further revealed that first team coach Jason Euell and head of medical performance Dave Rennie have also left the club.

In the meantime, assistant manager Curtis Fleming has been appointed interim head coach and will be assisted by Ali Hines and Kalifa Cissé as City search for a new head coach.

Bermudian forward Wells has been sidelined through injury since City’s 2-1 defeat at Leeds United in the Championship on October 7.

The 33-year-old was aided off the pitch at Elland Road in the 30th minute after Leeds captain, defender Pascal Struijk, fell on his ankle during a challenge.

Wells was fitted with a protective boot as part of his rehabilitation, which is expected to take several weeks before he regains fitness.

The former Bermuda captain enjoyed an encouraging start to the new campaign after scoring three goals in thirteen appearances in all competitions.
