Saltus Grammar School won the Under-12 Middle School six-a-side tournament after beating Purvis Primary 3-0 in the final.

The inaugural tournament in this age category was created to give Purvis Primary and Francis Patton an opportunity to compete with both schools having primary 7 students this year, but the competition went to Saltus who did not concede any goals.

Jace Postlethwaite opened the scoring in the final after a neat build-up starting from defender Adam Barritt. He found Mackay Browne on the right who in turn then squared the ball to Postlethwaite who had the simple task of slotting the ball home from close range.

Postlethwaite doubled the lead midway through the first half from an assist by Xonti Burch, who sealed the win in the second half.

Saltus had earlier defeated Warwick Academy 2-0 in the semi-final with Postlethwaite scoring either side of half-time.

Purvis Primary defeated Whitney Institute in the other semi-final. Kyron Bryan gave Purvis a 1-0 lead, which they took into the half-time break. Zhale Trott equalised early in the second half after his deflected shot wrongfooted the Purvis goalkeeper.

Purvis regained the lead from the resulting kick-off after Psalm Caines’s precise pass put an advancing Bryan clear on goal and he made no mistake slotting the ball past the advancing Whitney goalkeeper.

Jaylon Glasford rounded out the scoring for Purvis after blocking an attempted clearance from the Whitney goalkeeper and converting into an empty net.
