CedarBridge Academy Blue were crowned champions at the under-16 Senior School boys six-a-side tournament at the Clyde Best Centre of Excellence yesterday.

The CedarBridge team capped off an undefeated day with a 3-0 victory over Somersfield Academy in the final.

They took the lead in the second minute when the defence allowed Harlem Bean-Fox the space to power a fierce drive from well outside the box.

Dakari Smith doubled the lead near the end of the half when he was the first to react to a scramble in the area following a corner and he thought he had scored his second late in the match but team-mate Jaylen Heaven got the final touch before the ball crossed the goalline.

CedarBridge cruised past Berkeley Gold 7-1 in their quarter-final match with Tyree Fubler leading the way with a hat-trick and Bean-Fox, Kodi Hines, Jaden Proctor and Heaven adding a goal each. Xoni Allen added a late consolation goal for Berkeley.

In their quarter-final, Berkeley Green edged past Saltus Red 2-1. River Curtis gave Berkeley the lead after he found himself the space to attack on the break.

Declan Reardon equalised in the second half after a neat pass from Jack Fisher and just when it seemed penalties was going to be needed to settle the match, Joshua Smith gave Berkeley the win with the final kick of the match.

Berkeley Green then moved on the face Somersfield Academy in the semi-final. Misake Kitade put Somersfield Academy ahead in the first minute but again Berkeley found a late goal, which sent the semi-final to a shootout and Kitade would score the decisive goal as his side advanced 5-4 on penalties.

CedarBridge Blue defeated Saltus White 2-1 in the other semi-final. The match was fast-paced with both teams attacking to find the opening goal. CedarBridge’s Fubler intercepted a casual back-pass before slipping the ball into an empty net to give the Devonshire school the lead and Heaven would score a close-range effort late in the semi-final to secure the 2-0 win.
