Unbeaten leaders Devonshire Colts thrashed St David’s 6-2 at Police Field on Sunday to remain firmly on course to win promotion from the First Division.

Keino Burch and Malahku Selassie led the charge with a brace each, while Sage Blair-Paynter and substitute Jordan Saunders also got in on the scoring act. Keishen Bean grabbed two goals of his own in reply for visiting St David’s.

Burch opened the scoring in the seventh minute before Bean equalised in the 21st minute. Selassie restored Colts’ lead three minutes later before Burch grabbed a second in the 42nd minute to double the home side’s advantage.

Selassie converted his second on the stroke of half-time to all but secure his team’s convincing win and Blair-Paynter scored in the first minute of the second half to make it 5-1. Substitute Saunders netted the sixth in the 67th minute only two minutes after coming off the bench, while Bean grabbed his his second goal for St David’s in the final minute of regulation time.

Colts are now six points clear at the top of the First Division over nearest rivals Robin Hood, who dropped vital points after being beaten 2-1 by Somerset Eagles at Goose Gosling Field last Wednesday night.

Michael Tyler Emery found the net twice for Eagles with substitute Chai Jennings Barnett on the scoresheet for Hood.

Third-placed Wolves gained ground on Hood after they thumped Vasco da Gama 4-0 at Goose Gosling Field last Thursday.

Wolves led 1-0 at the break after a goal from Devon Bothelo before second-half strikes from Lamelle Paynter, Sergio Richardson and substitute Mackih McGowan put the match beyond Vasco’s reach. Wolves trail Hood by just a point with a game in hand.

Also remaining within striking distance of the second promotion spot is Boulevard, who thumped Southampton Rangers 5-1 at Goose Gosling Field on Sunday.

Shakil Pearman led the charge for the hosts with two goals while Sanchey Grant, Ian Coke and substitute Kenyade McQueen were also on target. Donte Brangman replied for Rangers. Boulevard trail Wolves by a point and also have a game in hand over Hood.
