Warwick Academy win middle school over-13 football tournament

Warwick Academy crowned champions of middle school over-13 six-a-side tournament

Zydon Lightbourne-Furbert was the star of the show as he led Warwick Academy to victory in the middle school over-13 six-a-side tournament by scoring all four goals in the final against Saltus.

Lightbourne-Furbert opened the scoring from close range after connecting on a cross from Marcus Spencer and would go on to score a second-half hat-trick to secure the title for Warwick, who found a way to utilise the strength and speed of Lightbourne-Furbert after long punts from Xavier Thomas-Bassett in the Warwick goal.

Rufaro Kunze’s goal was all Warwick needed to defeat Whitney Institute in their semi-final.

Saltus won 4-2 on penalties against Dellwood Middle School after their semi-final ended in a 1-1 draw.

Jeon Wolfe gave Dellwood a 1-0 first-half lead before Kaiyuri Albouy equalised in the second half. A fierce long range free kick by Cade Thompson secured Dellwood’s passage to the semi-final with a 1-0 win over Somersfield Academy. Whitney reached the semi-final courtesy of a Saatchi Trott goal.
