Simeon Burrows is off to a promising start at new club Devonshire Cougars.

The 22-year-old midfielder joined Kwame Steede’s team from childhood club Somerset Trojans during the summer transfer window and has made a seamless transition to his new surroundings at the Den.

“The transition to Cougars has been easier than what I thought it would be due to the boys accepting me from the first session,” Burrows said.

“Cougars are almost like a brotherhood as the team is so close knit.”

Cougars’ possessive brand of football played a major factor in the player’s decision to join their ranks.

“Their playing style was one of the reasons as it suits me as a player,” Burrows said.

As fate would have it, Burrows opened his scoring account with a brace against his former team last month when Cougars came from behind to beat Trojans 6-2.

“It was a bittersweet moment as it was my first goals for Cougars, but against my former club, so it was a moment of mixed emotions,” said Burrows, who also had previous stints in England at Hough End Griffins Soccer Club and the Manchester United Foundation.

After returning back on island Burrows enjoyed success as a member of Trojans’ Dudley Eve Trophy-winning squad last season and came up just shy of earning a second straight winner’s medal in the competition after Cougars were edged 1-0 by North Village in last month’s final at Somerset Cricket Club.

“We came up unlucky in the Dudley Eve final but I’m sure we will be in the running for what’s left to play for,” he added. “The expectations for the team this season is to win everything available.”

Burrows and his Cougars team-mates are on a three-game winning streak which they will hope to build on when they travel to Wellington Oval tomorrow to face unpredictable St George’s Colts.

The visitors will be well rested having not played a match since prevailing 4-1 away to Paget Lions in their previous league outing.

Cougars were scheduled to face Dandy Town in the league at Goose Gosling Field on Monday night but the match was postponed owing to a waterlogged pitch.

Tomorrow’s remaining Premier Division fixtures will see unbeaten leaders North Village host Young Men’s Social Club at Bernard Park while bottom team X-Roads Warriors will continue their search for a first win of the season against visiting Dandy Town at Lord’s in St David’s.

Meanwhile, sparks are expected to fly in tomorrow’s intriguing top-of-the-table First Division clash between unbeaten leaders Devonshire Colts and second-placed Wolves at Bernard Park.

Southampton Rangers will square off with Somerset Eagles at Southampton Oval while St David’s Warriors host Robin Hood at Lord’s in tomorrow’s remaining second-tier fixtures.
