North Village seeking to avenge heavy loss to PHC
North Village have a score to settle in their Premier Division make-up match away to champions PHC Zebras at PHC Field tonight (8pm).
Kenny Thompson’s team suffered a humbling 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Zebras, their only defeat of the season to date in all competitions, during the group stage of the Dudley Eve Trophy, which they ultimately won.
As well as gaining revenge, Village will also be keen to get back to winning ways having been held to 1-1 draw on their own patch at Bernard Park by Young Men’s Social club in their previous league outing.
Both teams have momentum, having prevailed in their Friendship Trophy quarter-final matches over Devonshire Cougars and Paget Lions respectively.
Defender Diondre Dowling is expected to return to the Zebras squad from a one-game suspension, while Village defender Casey Castle remains doubtful having suffered a knock in his team’s cup clash with Cougars on Sunday night at Goose Gosling Field.
Utility player Liam Evans replaced former Zebras player Castle and could be in contention to retain the position should the defender be declared unfit to play in the top-of-the-table contest, which will be of vital importance to both teams title hopes.
Village’s lead was reduced to one point when Devonshire Cougars beat Young Men’s Social Club 2-1 in a match when all the goals came in the final two minutes.
Among those expected to retain their place in Village’s starting XI is midfielder Troy Tucker, who rejoined the club during the late transfer window.
Tucker brought the crowd to their feet after scoring a spectacular goal from 45 yards, his first of the season, against Cougars on Sunday night.
The experienced player has made a seamless transition since his move from First Division side Wolves, which he is determined to build upon going forward.
“I have good players around me so the transition has been easy,” Tucker said.
“I am trying to get my breeze back having signed as a late transfer and just need to keep focusing on my game.”
Tonight’s contest will be the first of back-to-back meetings between the rivals, who will square off again in the Friendship Trophy semi-final at Devonshire Recreation Club on Wednesday (9pm).
