Nahki Wells returns to Bristol City starting line-up in stalemate
Nahki Wells was handed his first start since returning from a two-month injury layoff in Bristol City’s goalless draw with hosts Birmingham City at St Andrew’s in the Sky Bet Championship on Friday.
The 33-year-old Bermudian striker saw 45 minutes of action before being replaced by Scottish forward Tommy Conway after the interval.
The appearance was Wells’s third since returning from a serious ankle injury in City’s 2-1 loss at Leeds United at the beginning of October.
He completed his comeback after coming on as a substitute in City’s 3-2 win at home over Hull City on December 22 which was also his first playing under the club’s new manager Liam Manning since he succeeded predecessor Nigel Pearson who was sacked on October 28.
The former Bermuda captain also came off the bench in City’s 4-1 demolition of Watford at Vicarage Road last on Sunday.
Wells was off to a decent start to the season after scoring three goals in thirteen appearances in all competitions before his misfortune left him facing a long journey back to fitness.
City are back in action on New Year’s Day when they Millwall in the Sky Bet Championship at Ashton Gate.
Manning’s team are eighth in the Championship standings, two places adrift of the play-off spot.
