Jahzardae Samuels scores late winner for Hornets
Young Men’s Social Club 2 Dandy Town 3
Jahzardae Samuels scored twice, including a late winner, as Dandy Town pushed clear of the relegation zone at Police Field.
Social Club started brighter, keeping the ball slightly better and showing more attacking intent in the opening few minutes and they opened the scoring from a good move, which began with Ryan Parris in midfield and culminated in Terron Butterfield, pushing forward from right back, cutting the ball back for Jinairo Johnson to sidefoot into the back of the net past Town goalkeeper Toran Place.
A physical period of play ensued following the Social Club breakthrough with neither team able to take control of possession or the tempo of the game.
Social Club narrowly shaded the remainder of the first half but lost their early element of defensive solidity after they scored and were not able to hold on to their slender until half time, with Allan Martin taking advantage of a goalmouth scramble from a set-piece to equalise.
After getting that boost, Town came out after the restart with more enthusiasm and confidence with a few personnel changes breathing life into their attack and they did not have to wait long in the second half to take the lead with Samuels latching on to Ereico Outerbridge’s pull-back to finish past Saki Tuzo.
Falling behind appeared to wake Social Club and they regained momentum, creating numerous clear-cut opportunities and forcing one or two saves from Place.
Although Social Club were quicker to every second ball as they attempted to get back into the game, the few opportunities they did have stemmed from lapses of concentration from the away side’s defence. Another Town mistake as Place tried to play through midfield gifted Social Club their equaliser as David Jones Jr intercepted his pass and drove into space before firing a solid low strike into the far post.
But that hard work and endeavour was ultimately for nought as Cecoy Robinson kept a deep cross alive and headed down for Samuels to squeeze a soft effort past Tuzo with just four minutes left on the clock to snatch the win.
Town’s Jomei Bean-Lindo expects the win to boost his team’s confidence.
“This win was for team morale,” Bean-Lindo said. “We stayed firm and got the win together.”
