LeiLanni Nesbeth is on her way to Chicago after being named the tenth pick in the 2024 National Women’s Soccer League Draft.
The Bermuda midfielder, who won her second NCAA Championship Trophy with Florida State last year, was drafted in the first round by Chicago Red Stars who finished bottom of the NWSL this season.
Nesbeth was the first non-American to be picked in the draft, which took place in Anaheim, California, and featured four rounds with up to 56 players selected by the NWSL’s 14 teams.
Ally Sentnor, who played for North Carolina, had the honour of being the first name announced and she will head to Utah to play with the Utah Royals, who also traded up to draft Brecken Mozingo at No 4.
The promising Savy King and Croix Bethune went second and third and will start their professional careers with Bay FC and Washington Spirit respectively.
