Bermuda have high hopes for Under-20 Championship qualifying
Expectations are high in the camp as the national squad for the upcoming Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship qualifiers in St Kitts & Nevis continues to take shape.
Bermuda have been placed in group F alongside Jamaica, Grenada and Martinique, with all matches to be played at the SKNFA Technical Centre in Basseterre.
Coach Cecoy Robinson’s team will kick off their campaign against Grenada on February 24 before taking on Martinique two days later and concluding the campaign against Jamaica on February 28.
Only the eventual group winner will advance to the 2024 Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship, where they will be joined by the six pre-seeded top-ranked nations.
“We will always be positive in our approach and the objective is to win the group, so that’s what we are setting ourselves up to do,” he said. “We will take it one game at time with no disrespect to any team, but the boys are hungry and that’s what we will set out to accomplish.”
Robinson said he and his fellow coaching staff are facing a welcome selection headache.
“All the boys are hungry to be a part and we have some tough decisions to make,” he added. “The squad is coming along good.
“We are still looking at some things behind the scenes to try and pick the best players available at the stage but preparations went really well. The pool of players is large, so the quality and competition has been really high.”
Bermuda are attempting to make their second appearance at the Championship, having previously featured at the event in Costa Rica in 2017, where they were eliminated in the group stage.
