Nahki Wells involved as Bristol City end Southampton’s unbeaten run
Nahki Wells came on as a substitute as Bristol City brought a shock end to Southampton’s 25-game unbeaten run with a 3-1 victory at Ashton Gate last night.
Wells came on for Tommy Conway in the 76th minute when City were already 2-0 up, through goals from Sam Bell and Robert Dickie and the Bermudian forward was on the field as the Robins extended the lead with a Harry Cornick goal.
Southampton, who are now third in the Sky Bet Championship, pulled one back through Adam Armstrong’s penalty in the fifth minute of added time.
Before losing to City, Southampton had not tasted defeat since September 23, when they were beaten 2-1 by Middlesbrough, while City’s victory, their second on the spin following a 2-1 triumph over Middlesbrough on Saturday, moves them on to 44 points and eleventh in the league.
Wells and his team-mates, who beat Premier League side West Ham in an FA Cup third-round replay last month, were finding the going tough in the league with their last three points before Middlesbrough coming on Boxing Day courtesy of a 4-1 success over Watford.
