Wolves took a major step towards promotion to the Premier Division after edging Robin Hood in a crucial clash at the top end of the table on Sunday.

With both sides in the hunt for the final remaining promotion spot behind champions Devonshire Colts, Wolves seized the initiative aftersealing a narrow 2-1 victory to move into second place, three points clear of Southampton Rangers in third and a further point ahead of Hood in fourth.

Elsewhere, Rangers’ own promotion challenge suffered a major dent after falling to an emphatic 7-2 defeat away to Colts.

At the other end of the table, St David’s inflicted a 9-1 thrashing on basement boys Ireland Island Rangers as the bottom two clubs faced off, while a day earlier Vasco fell further off the promotion pace when going down to a disappointing 2-0 defeat away to Somerset Eagles.

The result leaves Vasco in fifth on 18 points, five adrift of Wolves after playing a game more.
