Bermuda aim to start Concacaf Under-20 Championship on front foot
Bermuda coach Cecoy Robinson says his players are chomping at the bit to begin their Concacaf Under-20 Championship qualifying campaign against Grenada at the SKNFA Technical Centre in Basseterre, St Kitts & Nevis today.
The national side hope to come away with a positive result from their opening group F match which Robinson believes they are capable of given the calibre of the players he has at his disposal.
“The first result is always one of the most important ones, so for us we are just looking to play our best and get that result we are looking for,” he told The Royal Gazette. “We will try to play on the front foot and do the right things that we know that we can.
“The first process is picking a team to start the match in a positive way.”
Robinson put his players through their final paces during a training session at the ground yesterday.
“The pitch is good so everybody is excited to be playing on it. Everybody is just raring to go right now,” he added.
Robinson is inspired by the positive response and commitment his players have demonstrated towards the cause.
“These guys are already professional, so I can respect and take my hats off to them,” he said. “They’ve understood what we are trying to do.
“They have been paying attention to what we’ve asked and if they don’t understand it they have been asking questions.
“So for us, it’s been pretty seamless and I think everybody is just chomping at the bit to get going."
Meanwhile, Grenada coach Anthony Modeste also believes his team can come away with a favourable result.
“We come here knowing that every team is a challenge but we need to focus on what we have to do,’” he added.
“I think once we do what we have to do we will be OK.
“The camp is very upbeat. There’s a vibe in the camp and they are now looking forward to the first game.”
