Clay Darrell netted four times as Robin Hood thrashed Ireland Island Rangers at Goose Gosling Field yesterday to keep their promotion hopes on track.

Robin Hood made an impeccable start, going two goals ahead inside the first ten minutes when Estivaldo Jose Abranches fired past goalkeeper Daischon Chin into the far post after just three minutes and Vance Hill scored just five minutes later after Rangers failed to clear their lines.

Chin, despite conceding nine goals, had a good game and made numerous saves on his first appearance between the sticks, notably when Jesse Seymour was played through and picked his spot only for Chin to make a superb reflex stop.

Things went from bad to worse for Rangers when their striker and captain Tahj Wade limped off with a knee injury caused by stretching for a challenge on Zias Smith.

Darrell scored his first after 15 minutes when Smith picked him out in acres of space on the right flank and the former Bermuda international fired hard and low through the legs of Chin, whose outstretched arms could not keep the strike out and he grabbed his second after 29 minutes when heading in from close range.

Zias Smith fired home in first-half stoppage time to give Hood a fourth before half-time.

The second half was played at a testimonial pace with Rangers knowing their fate and Hood having a perfect opportunity to increase their goal difference.

Darrell completed his hat-trick on the hour before Jesse Seymour got his name on the scoresheet seven minutes later. Darrell would get his fourth with ten minutes remaining before Seymour rounded off the scoring with his second of the day.
