Devonshire Cougars 4 X-Roads 4

X-Roads captain Donavan Thompson scored four goals in a thrilling draw against Devonshire Cougars at Devonshire Rec to help his side temporarily fend off 
relegation.

It was the second time this season that Thompson has found the target four times in a match. His first such effort led to a 5-2 victory over Dandy Town for Ralph Bean Jr’s team at Lord’s in December. Thompson is now on 11 league goals.

Cougars got their goals courtesy of a brace from Elisha Darrell, as well as one apiece from Domico Coddington and substitute Jonas Scroder.

The draw takes X-Roads on to six points, with their fate now in the hands of Young Men’s Social Club, who can condemn them to the drop with a point against St George’s Colts tomorrow.

Darrell opened the scoring for Cougars in the eighth minute when he was put through by Coddington and had no problems slotting the ball past Q’Shai Darrell.

Thompson equalised for X-Roads in the tenth minute, rising high to head in Akim Johnstone’s corner kick.

Some relentless pressure saw Coddington pout Cougars ahead in the sixteenth minute. His initial effort was cleared off the line, but with X-Roads failing to get the ball out of their box, Coddington pounced to fire home.

Thompson made Cougars pay for missing a number of opportunities in the 27th minute, when he scored from a goalmouth scramble.

Darrell put Cougars ahead for a third time just before the break with a header off a Mikiel Thomas corner.

In the 63rd minute, Thompson made it 3-3, before a long clearance from a Cougars corner saw the captain through on goal in the 90th minute, and he made no mistake to put his side 4-3 in front.

However, X-Roads failed to protect that lead and Scroder had an easy tap-in two minutes into additional time to confirm Cougars’ first draw of the season.
