Mia Fishel on road to recovery after knee surgery

Thumbs up: Mia Fishel, after undergoing surgery on her anterior cruciate ligament injury

Mia Fishel is on the road to recovery following surgery on a serious knee injury this week.

Fishel, whose father is Bermudian, sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury last month while training with the United States team in the build up to the Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup.

However, the 22-year-old appears to be on the mend after taking to social media to thank the both the US and Chelsea medical teams.

“I’d like to thank my management and medical teams for a successful surgery,” she said on Instagram.

“Also, I want to thank the US national women’s team and Chelsea Women for their unwavering support during this critical time.

“Nonetheless, I have some new and exciting projects for 2024 and look forward to sharing a more personal side of Mia. Recovery begins, and we keep swimming!”

Fishel joined Chelsea from Mexican club Tigres on a three-year contract in August last year and has scored the club in the Women’s Super League and Champions League this year.

She made her senior international debut in September, coming on as a substitute in a 2-0 victory over visiting South Africa.
