Morricko Iris hat-trick powers promotion hopefuls Wolves to big win
Wolves kept their promotion bid firmly on track with a big win over visiting Somerset Eagles at Bernard Park on Sunday.
The Devonshire outfit dominated throughout on the way to an emphatic 7-1 victory, with Morricko Iris leading the charge with a hat-trick. James Hayeem and Lamelle Paynter added one each and Eagles’ Tarik Smith netted two own goals. Nathan Rego scored the consolation goal for the away side.
The result leaves Wolves in third, one point behind second place Robin Hood but with a game in hand over Hood, who occupy the remaining promotion spot but have already played their quota of matches for the season.
Wolves can now leapfrog Hood and clinch promotion with victory over bottom club Ireland Rangers at Bernard Park in their season finale on Sunday.
While Hood and Wolves’s promotion hopes remain alive, the same cannot be said for fifth-place Southampton Rangers who had their hopes dashed after rivals Ireland Rangers forfeited the match at Southampton Oval due to a shortage of players.
It is the second straight match Ireland Rangers has forfeited after failing to fulfil the fixture against Boulevard at Goose Gosling Field on Monday night.
The final day of action in the First Division this season will feature Boulevard hosting champions Devonshire Colts at Goose Gosling Field, Somerset Eagles taking on St David’s Warriors at White Hill Field and Southampton Rangers facing Vasco at Southampton Oval.
