FC Bascome under-13 team named champions at USL Academy Cup
FC Bascome’s under-13 team were named champions in their age group at the recent USL Academy Cup in Tampa, Florida.
The local side won the Legacy boys title after finishing with a flawless 4-0 record, scoring 15 goals without conceding.
They got their campaign off to a flying start with a lopsided 12-0 thrashing of Sports Paradize Soccer Academy in their tournament opener before chalking up 2-0 and 1-0 victories over Lexington SC and Miami AC in their remaining round-robin matches. They then edged Swan City FC 1-0 in the title decider at the Tournament Sportsplex of Tampa Bay.
FC Bascome also produced a strong showing in the Select Division boys under-15 category, in which they finished third overall and also did not concede a goal.
They beat Detroit City FC 2-0 in their first match before playing out goalless draws against Brooklyn Italians and Lexington SC in their remaining round.robin matches. They beat One Knoxville SC in the third-place play-off.
Bascome FC were also represented in the Legacy Division boys under-20 category and they punched above their weight with a team of 16-year-olds who finished runners-up in their group and fourth overall.
The team suffered a 4-0 defeat against Chicago in their opening game before recording a 1-1 draw against Ventura County Fusion and beating Miami AC 4-1 in their final group match. They lost 1-0 to Tobacco Road FC in the third -place play-off.
FC Bascome were making their second appearance at the USL Academy Cup, one of the largest football competitions in the United States, after making their debut at the event last year.
