Scott Morton declines offer to stay on at Dandy Town
The search is on for a new head coach at Dandy Town after Scott Morton declined an offer to serve beyond his initial short term deal at the Pembroke club.
The former club player took over the helm in February after agreeing to serve as interim head coach for the rest of the 2023-24 season.
Morton stepped down as head coach of Somerset Trojans in March 2023 for health reasons, but agreed to step in at Town less than a year later after Aaron Denkins reluctantly relinquished the post owing to increased work commitments.
The 55-year-old fulfilled his main objective by helping Town retain their Premier Division status after they languished near the relegation zone when he took over the reins.
Morton met with club officials last month to determine his future but no agreement could be reached.
“Scott Morton has declined the opportunity to return as head coach of Western Stars Sports Club for the upcoming 2024-25 season,” club president Devarr Boyles told The Royal Gazette.
It now remains to be seen who will fill the void created by Morton’s departure as Town go out about the business of finding a suitable successor.
“The process has started, but there is nothing to report at this time,” Boyles added.
“We will take a measured approach to find the right people to coach our senior men’s team.”
