Cecoy Robinson is relishing his first opportunity to coach at the domestic senior level after recently taking over at the helm of Robin Hood.

The former PHC Zebras and Dandy Town striker has taken over from Detroy Smith on the First Division club’s coaching staff and is looking forward to the challenge ahead.

“It’s a good opportunity for me,” Robinson told The Royal Gazette.

“It’s my first senior coaching job, even though I have been coaching for a while, and what we are building as far as the project is concerned is definitely in the right direction.”

Robinson makes no secret of his philosophy and is keen to point out the way Hood will be expected to play

“For us the goal is to play quality, attractive football,” Robinson said.

“I don’t want to put any expectations on the team as we are a young team but we just need to focus on ourselves and the brand of football we are trying to play. The rest will take care of itself.”

“With the team we have put together with Richard Todd [technical director], Taurean Manders [assistant coach] and myself, we will be looking to work together and help the club grow in a positive direction.

“The youth teams have done really well and now we want to make sure that translates directly into the senior team with the right attitude and atmosphere surrounding the club.”

Robinson has also registered with the club as a player and is keen to offer his services on the pitch if need be.

“I have transferred to Robin Hood as well,” he said. The goal is to coach but for sure some games I will be looking to make myself available.

As well as Hood, Robinson also continues to serve on the national coaching staff as coach of the Bermuda Under-20 team.

“I’m still involved with the under-20s and I think this opportunity is only going to help me grow as coach to better serve the national academy,” he said.

“It comes at the right time for me to learn and continue to be better.”

Manders, a former Bermuda midfielder, is also looking forward to serving in his new role.

“Personally it was a good decision because coming back from the UK, I didn’t really have the lay of the land of the local landscape in football at the moment,” he said.

“I didn’t want to come in and be appointed to any kind of top position and not know exactly what’s going on locally with the football, as I don’t know a lot of the players.

“We have a good coaching team there and obviously they know the local players a lot better than I do, and it was easy for me to just slip in and help out where needed.

“It’s a couple of things I want to do coming back, and developing football is the top.”

Hood finished third last season behind Devonshire Colts and Wolves.

The former Premier Division powerhouse had a one-point advantage over third-place Wolves heading into the final weekend of the season but had already concluded their fixtures.
