Oatley finishes top of the class in schools’ race
Saltus Grammar Schools Daniel Oatley stormed to victory in yesterday’s Over-13 Boy’s Middle Schools’ Cross-Country Final at the Arboretum, finishing 45 seconds ahead of his closest competitor.Oatley came home in a time of 12 minutes four seconds ahead of team-mate Sam Wehmeyer (12:49) and Clearwater’s Jahquill Hill (13.12) who finished third. The team winners were Saltus with 55 points.In the Over-13 Girl’s race, Delllwood Middle Schools’ Faheemah Scraders claimed victory in a time of 14.23 with Dezhane West, from Clearwater, finishing runner-up in 14.55 and Dellwood’s Emily Cowan coming third (14.59). BHS finished as winners with 41 points.David Darrell, of Warwick Academy, won the Under-13 Boy’s race posting a time of 12.26 ahead of Somersfield Academy’s Tyler Smith (12.46) and Machaiah Robinson, of Clearwater, who came third (13.09). The overall school winners were Clearwater with 76 points.Sandys Middle School’s Zakiyyah Showers took the title in the Under-13 Girl’s contest, finishing the race in 8.20. In second place was BHS’ Quinnae Outerbridge (8.49) and Clearwater’s Azaria Robinson (8.50) who came third. BHS were the winning school with 61 points.
