Will this be Trott’s year to triumph

Sean Trott is hopeful that this could be his year after encouraging preparations ahead of next week’s May 24th Derby race.Trott, who represented Bermuda at the NACAC Cross-Country Championships in Trinidad earlier this year, put the finishing touches to his training by winning the Bermuda Regiment five-mile race over the weekend. The 21-year-old outpaced Derby rival Jay Donawa to clock a time of 25 minutes and 59 seconds, while Donawa finished with a time of 26:45.The win boosted the rising star’s confidence and he believes he is in much better shape this time around to challenge the favourites, while acknowledging the likes of champions Chris Estwanik, Lamont Marshall and Donawa will all be tough to chase down.“Everything is going good in preparation for next week. I’ve done all the things that I needed to do and all the training I have done has got me ready for this year,” said Trott. “I am ready to put into practice what I have trained.”“The win over the weekend was huge for my confidence, before that I had ran a 10K a few weeks back and it didn’t go that well, I had just gotten off the flu and wasn’t 100 percent with injuries as well.“Coming off of that I had a few good weeks of training and I wanted to do another race so I could see how everything is working out for me at the moment.“It worked out on Sunday so I’m pleased with that.“At the front I expect to see Chris, Lamont, and Jay. These three would be the main people I would expect to see but anyone on the day can step up.”Trott had a promising debut race in 2009 and has since come along in leaps and bounds in the sport as he looks to put his name at the top of the domestic road running circuit.Dubbed the future of Bermuda running, the youngster admits that the pressure does bear on his mind but remains calm with all the hype surrounding him and his potential.“It is a little but of pressure being expected to compete at the highest level at this age, but I’m not letting it get to my head, I just keep doing what I do and try not to change too much,” he said.“I’m just confident in my preparation and the gift I have been given which is running so I don’t let the expectations get to me too much.”
