Cross country series ends with national championships
Races will be held in the Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, Under-17, Under-20, Open, Masters, Senior Masters and Over-60 divisions with some of the Island’s top runners expected to compete.Under-10 and Under-12 competitors will start at 8.30am with the other groups following at 9.00am.“We are looking forward to an excellent turn-out as we have had increased numbers in our cross-country series this year,” said BTFA president Donna Watson.“We are hoping that some of the top male and female road runners come out and compete in the championships.“All of our middle distance athletes hoping for a spot in the Carifta team have been competing all season and we expect to see them at the championships and, of course, we always look at the younger athletes who are coming up“This will close out our cross-country season as we begin to prepare for our very important track and field season.“Many of these age groups have been very close and the winners have only won by a few seconds.”n The Fairmont to Fairmont race, one of the Island’s longest running road events, will mark its 35th anniversary next month with a corporate relay included for the first time.The race, just over seven miles in distance, will be held on January 8, starting as usual at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess and ending at the Fairmont Southampton Princess.Leading up to the event, which takes place a week before the International Race Weekend, a training programme has been put into place by veteran road runner Victoria Fiddick and former track and field star Steve Burgess.Among the prizes in the main draw will be a five-night stay at the Fairmont Mayakoba in Mexico that also includes airfare for two.For more information on the race, runners can go to www.racedayworld.com.The deadline for entries is January 6.
