Squash boys triumphant in Caribbean

Bermuda produced two individual champions, Dylan Pratt and Noah Browne, at the Caribbean Junior Championships in Jamaica over the weekend.And D’Vario Thompson came close to joining them after he was beaten in the Under-17 final.In the Under-13 final, Pratt, the number one seed, defeated second set Khamal Cumberbatch of Barbados 3-0 (11-9, 11-3, 11-8).In the Under-19 final, Browne beat the top seed Kevin Hannaway 3-1 (6-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-3).Thompson lost a marathon clash with Nyron Joseph in the Under-17 final, the Guyana player prevailing 3-2 (9-11, 6-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-8).Meanwhile, in the team event, the girls won three of their five matches against Cayman Islands, securing a 3-2 victory.Under-19 players Alex Marshall and Alyssa Brewer both lost their matches in three games, putting the score at 1-2 heading into the final two matches as Cayman were unable to field an Under-13 player.But Under-15 player Tiye Williams won her match, Under-17 Emma Keane lost a close first game, but outlasted her opponent to win the next three straight, giving the girls the overall victoryThe boys were due to play Jamaica yesterday in a first round match. Last night the girls were scheduled to play Guyana.
