Bermuda’s senior squash team head to Trinidad and Tobago on Friday hoping to duplicate the success of the junior national team in Jamaica recently.Recently turned touring professional, Micah Franklin, will lead the five-man team in the Senior Caribbean Championships from August 17 to 27. Also representing Bermuda are Chris Stout, Andrew Stout, Stephen Smith and Anthony Fellowes. Digicel are the lead sponsors of the team.Franklin has been training at the National Squash Academy in Toronto under the guise of former world number one, Jonathan Power, and has moved up the professional rankings to number 245.His aim is to move into the top eight in the Caribbean during the upcoming tournament.Chris Stout is no stranger to success in Caribbean Championships, having been a key member of the national team that captured the 2010 Men’s Caribbean Team title in St. Vincent. He had a full schedule last summer, representing the national team at the Island Games (Isle of Wight), Junior Caribbeans (Guyana), Senior Caribbeans (Cayman Islands) and World Men’s Teams (Paderborn, Germany).Andrew Stout is making his inaugural appearance at a Senior Caribbean Championships. He has made six appearances at the Junior Caribbean Championships and his training schedule has been rigorous ahead of these championships.Bermuda Squash Racquets Association’s Andrew Mount said: “Andrew’s persistence and tactical play are a welcome addition to the national team.”Stephen Smith is also making his first appearance at a Senior Caribbean Championships, having competed as a junior in Guyana, Bahamas, Trinidad & Tobago and Barbados. Smith competes in the circuit of tournaments hosted at BSRA and had a strong showing at this past Digicel National Championships.Anthony Fellowes had some impressive performances last year at the Caribbean’s in Cayman Islands and he followed that up with a steady year in local tournaments.“His consistent play is a major asset to this team and will be an important factor as Bermuda battles with some of the heavyweights in the Caribbean,” added Mount..The Bermuda team will be competing with teams from Barbados, Venezuela, OECS, Guyana, Jamaica, Cayman Islands and Trinidad & Tobago.
