Crimestoppers race to held tomorrow

Chayce Smith heads into the finish line of the Crime Stoppers 5K Road Race. The annual event takes centre stage tomorrow through the streets of Hamilton.

The Crimestoppers 5K will take centre stage tomorrow morning with runners pounding the pavement through the streets of Hamilton.The route, which starts and ends at the Argus Building, will see junior and senior runners take to the course for bragging rights.Evan Naude and Jennifer Alen won last year’s race, Naude winning in 16 minutes and 28 seconds, more than a minute ahead of Kenya-born Gideon Kigotho in 17:31, with Mantz Theron 10 seconds further back in 17:41.Alen, Hilda Stoney and Victoria Fiddick were the top three women finishers, Alen taking first place in 19:20 among the women, fifth overall. However, she is a doubtful participant, having missed the recent PartnerRe 5k because of injury. Stoney will also not be competing, having relocated to Singapore. Kicking off the day is the junior walk, run and the walker 5K at 8.30am, while the senior runners start their trek around the capital at 9am.Race numbers are to be picked up on Saturday, between 10am and 12pm at the Argus Building, with late registration being accepted at number pickup for an additional $5. At 4pm yesterday some 434 runners had signed up.Trophies will be presented to the top three males and females in all age groups.
