Young rolls back the years
Reggie Young finished seventh in his age division in the world’s largest 10K road race at the weekend.
Young, 81, was part of a 25-strong contingent from the Swan’s Running Club who travelled to Atlanta for the annual Peachtree 10K road race. He completed the race in 1hr 8min 59sec, placing 25,830th overall. There were just over 57,000 finishers.
Eighteen of the local group took part in the famous race, and a number of them chalked up impressive age division placings. Alec Swan, 53, led home the local runners in 46:50.
He was 150th in his age division and 2,459 overall.
The next Bermuda runners were Kevin Anderson, 57, in 48:57 and Mark Albouy in 52:02. Anderson was 119th in his division.
Zina Jones, 52, led the local women in the 6.2-mile event, running 52:18 to finish 73rd in her division. She was followed by Mayberline Black, 60, who was 51st in her division in 58:30 and Victoria Millett, who ran 58:56.
The overall winner of the 10K was Christo Landry, US, in 28:25, while the first woman was Amy Hastings, US, in 32:16.
The other Bermuda finishers were Amin Smith in 1:01:29, Alshia Lugo 1:03:31, Rochelle Swan 1:04:08, Florence Sharpe-Trott 1:05:54, Hatty Manocchi 1:10:52, Donna Mae Arorash 1:12:45, Edwina Arorash 1:12:46, Ray Madeiros 1:16:25, Sheena Young 1:16:26, Gary Young 1:16:26 and Betty Mascall 1:27:50.
