Sousa’s leader of the pack
Experienced Island road runner Ricky Sousa led home the Bermuda contingent in yesterday’s United Airlines New York City Half-Marathon.
Sousa crossed the finish line in 1hr 32min 23sec, claiming 974th position overall. The race started in Central Park and took in the Downtown area of Manhattan. The men’s winner was Leonard Korir, of Kenya, in 1:01:06, while first woman was American Molly Huddle in 1:08:31.
Island resident Kristen Palmer ran 1:33:45, finishing 201st in the women’s race. Mark Robinson was close behind in 1:34:02.
Bermuda runners Allison Schindel and Ashley Estwanik ran together and finished in 1:37:59. They were 361st and 362nd respectively in the women’s division.
Steve Oritz clocked a time of 1:45:42, Arthur Wightman finished in 1:46:31, and Madison Brewer was timed at 1:57:10. Other finishers included David and Mollie Bigley, both in a time of 1:57:12, Emily Leitch in 1:57:18, and Peter Richold in 2:09:08.
