Grotto Bay tennis programme flourishing
Pre-school students were in action this week as the Grotto Bay Tennis Club hosted the Eastern Region Pre-school Tennis Exhibition.
The students, ages three to four, showed off the tennis skills they learned over the past year in the GBTC’s Tiny Tots programme.
With over 80 participants from Lyceum Preschool, St David’s Pre-school and St George’s Pre-school, the programme was the culmination of a year worth of rewarding lessons that helped build the children’s confidence and discipline as well as important motor skills.
“The programme is designed to complement many of the motor skills the students are already learning and practicing in pre-school, such as eye-hand coordination, running, walking, jumping, hopping, throwing, kicking, catching, bouncing, and stability,” Romar Douglas, the head coach, said.
“Being able to master a range of motor skills, along with good overall physical fitness, is critical to healthy development and forms the basis of their athletic competence, he added.
“This programme allows us to plant the seeds for our other junior programmes in the hopes they will come to fruition as these little ones move into primary school. It is a very exciting time for kids and tennis in our community,” he added.
