Butterfield finishes fifth

Strong swim: Butterfield came out of the water among the leaders in Quebec

Tyler Butterfield, the Bermuda triathlete, finished an impressive fifth in the Mont Tremblant Ironman 70.3 in Quebec, Canada.

Butterfield enjoyed a strong swim, which is usually his weakest discipline, exiting with water with the leaders in a time of 24min 11sec and after a strong bike was in contention for a podium finish.

The 32-year-old, who finished the bike 2:05:51 and the run in 1:15:49 for an overall time of 3:50:04, was pipped for fourth by Richie Cunningham, of the United States, by two seconds.

Pre-race favourite Lionel Sanders, of Canada, won the race in 3:45:38 with compatriot Taylor Reid in second (3:46:22) and Jesse Thomas third in 3:48:06.
