Bermuda’s second oldest continuously held road race returns for its 46th year on Sunday.

First held in March 1972, the race that was originally known as the BTFA half-marathon will feature as part of the Friends of Hospice/Hannover Re Walk and Run event.

The only road race in Bermuda with a longer history is the Appleby Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby, which dates back to 1909. Alongside with half-marathon, Sunday’s event also offers runners and walkers a 10K and a new 5K. Seamus Fearon won last year’s half-marathon in 1hr 25min 33sec, with Rose-Anna Hoey the women’s champion in 1:27:40. While Christopher Harris and Stepanka Sprincova were the men’s and women’s champions, respectively, in the 10K. Sunday’s races will start and finish outside the Botanical Gardens’ south gate.

Competitors will do a two-mile loop towards Hamilton, turning around near BUEI on East Broadway, before running back past the Botanical Gardens and east along South Road.

Half-marathon athletes will go as far as a turnaround point on Paynter’s Road before retracing their steps to the finish.

The 10K race will have a turnaround point near the top of McGall’s Hill on South Road, while the 5K competitors will turnaround at Demco florist on South Road.
